Modern weather forecasts mostly consist of
a computer model of the atmosphere which predicts the location and nature of weather systems for several days ahead.
an interpretation of the results of these models using the forecasters experience and intuition. The "interpretation" is particularly critical for mountain forecasts.
Of the following forecast sites, Metcheck is an excellent source of information on what the models are predicting and contains excellent computer-generated graphics; Mountain Weather Information System contains a very well-regarded interpretation by a very experienced meteorologist. The BBC forecast is typical of modern "dumbed-down" forecasts but, if you want a one-word answer to a simple question (Will it rain tomorrow?), it probably can't be bettered.
